Sniper Rifles
What we categorize as a sniper rifle
A sniper rifle is a high precision long range rifle noted for its high accuracy and reliability while still being mobile enough to be carried long distances by a soldier in the field. These firearms are either bolt action or semiautomatic and fitted with a telescopic sight for extreme accuracy. Under this category we will include three different subcategories: DMR, anti-personnel, and anti-material.
A DMR or Designated Marksman Rifle is a smaller lighter rifle typically used by a member of a squad, it in not technically a sniper rifle but used to fill the gap in range between a service rifle and a sniper, approximately between 300 to 600 meters or 330 to 660 yards, some of these rifles can also have selective fire of burst or fully automatic fire. The Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova (SVD) is considered a DMR.
Let's be honest, all rifles are anti-personnel rifles, but these ones specifically are about the rifles designed to reach out and touch others from a distance. These are your standard sniper rifles bolt action or semiautomatic fire, very accurate, powerful enough to pick off targets at 2,000 yards but not powerful enough to stop armored targets. This category would contain firearms like the Artic Warfare Magnum (AWM).
Anti-material rifles are the hard hitters, as Archer said they could kill a building. These are designed to take out enemy aircraft, disable vehicles, destroy missile launchers, and radar equipment, etcetera. Like the anti-personnel rifles they are bolt, or semiautomatic and could actually have a greater range than a regular anti-personnel sniper. The firearms under this category would be the Barrett M82A1, and MRAD rifles.
